The Black Dog
I saw a black dog play on river shore
I stretched my hand to reach him, then I saw -
He's not the friend whom I knew years before,
The friend, who will return to play no more...
I heard a black dog bark across the field,
I raised my voice to answer to his call,
But then again, to sorrow shall I yield,
For I was there to see his one last fall.
I stroke the hair of black dog passing by,
Though now I know, he's not the one I miss,
He's not the one who went without good-bye,
But my heart hardly ever ached like this.
I saw a stag, a dog, a wolf, a rat,
But it was just a perfect dream of mine,
And still, this image I shall not forget,
For there was time, when dream was true and fine.
I saw a black dog following a stag,
They ran past the horizon out of sight,
I know that they are never coming back,
And now I'm on my own on moonlit night...
